Making a Nature Hanging
If you are a bit like me, whenever you’re out for a walk, you pick up an interesting stick, a long dark feather, or a curled-up leaf.
There are so many beautiful and interesting things to discover on your walks. Then, when you get home, these items can either find their way to the special feather spot, nature bowl, or, more likely at my house - get lost amongst the jumble of other odds and ends!
Making a Nature Hanging is something you can do with the young children in your life after discovering some beautiful treasures together.
Resources are simple;
Scissors
String (maybe jute or wool as it is easier for little fingers to manipulate)
Found objects
One long stick
Find your treasures, if you do not have any on hand - it’s time to head out for a collecting walk with your child/ren.
Lay them out on the ground/table/bench in the order you would like to see them hanging.
Start with your long stick at the top, and use your string and scissors to start adding the finds to create something like a windchime/wallhanging. It can take many forms - let your little one’s creative choices shine through.
This can be a good time to practice;
fine motor skills - little fingers trying to tie knots
patience (all round!), and,
adaptability - things aren’t working… what else can we try?
And…. (impressive revealing noise) … you now have a beautiful new addition to hang at the front door, over the mantle or on a bedroom wall.
